Pulley Rescue Kits From RIDGEGEAR

Rescue with ease with our brand-new pulley rescue kits. We’ve added a 3:1 (RGR21) and 5:1 (RGR22) pulley rescue kit to our rescue range.

The pulley system is an essential tool for rescuers, climbers and emergency responders. The ingenious setup of these kits provides a significant mechanical advantage, making it far less strenuous to lift or lower casualties with minimal effort.

Understanding the pulley systems

A pulley system works on the principal of mechanical advantage, which allows a rescuer to lift a causality with less effort.

For the 5:1 pulley system every unit of force applied, five units of force are exerted on the casualty. With this logic the 3:1 pulley system will offer three units of force for every unit of force applied. This is achieved through a series of pulleys and ropes that distribute the weight and multiply the applied force.

Components in the pulley rescue kits

Pulleys: The core of the system, these kits consist of two pulleys each.

In the 5:1 system, this includes two double pulleys (RGR18) to create the necessary mechanical advantage.

In the 3:1 system, this includes two single pulleys (RGR17) to create the necessary mechanical advantage.

Ropes: High-strength 10.5mm static kernmantle rope designed to handle heavy loads and withstand the tension created by the pulleys.

Karabiners: Aluminium twistlock karabiners (RGK1/AT) used to connect the pulleys and ropes, these are crucial for ensuring secure and flexible attachment points.

Anchor slings: Made from strong Dyneema® these anchor slings (RGK26/DC) help to provide a stable anchor point by wrapping around a girder or metal beam. These anchor points allow the pulley system to be attached, ensuring that the causality can be lifted safely and efficiently.

Ascenders: Both kits come with a D4 rescue ascender (RGR16) which allows the rescuer to pull the causality up and then lower, without the rope slipping.

The 3:1 pulley system also has a hand ascender (RG/Ascender/RH) which secures the lower pulley in place whilst in use, allowing smooth, controlled movement during a rescue.

Both kits come pre-assembled for ease of use and so it is ready to go in an emergency.

Applications of the pulley rescue kits

The versatility of the pulley rescue kits makes them an invaluable additional to anyone’s rescue plan.

Mountain Rescue: Ideal for hauling injured climbers or rescuers themselves from crevices or steep terrains.

Firefighting and Emergency Response: Used to lift injured individuals in confined spaces or challenging environments.

Industrial Safety: In workplaces with high-risk activities, such as construction or oil rigs, the pulley system can be used to rescue workers safely.

Outdoor Recreation: For climbers, cavers, or even sailors, the pulley system can be a lifesaver in emergencies.

Advantages of the pulley rescue kits

Efficiency: The mechanical advantage offered by these kits make rescue operations quicker and less physically demanding.

Portability: These kits are made up of lightweight and compact components, they also come in a 50l rescue bag.

Versatility: The system can be adapted for different loads and situations, making it a flexible tool for various rescue, and lifting needs.

Safety: By reducing the strain on rescuers, the risk of injury is minimised, and the controlled lifting mechanism ensures the safety of both the rescuer and the person being rescued.

Tips for effective use

Training: Regular training and practice are crucial. Rescuers must be proficient in setting up and operating the system under pressure. At RIDGEGEAR we offer rescue training, if this is required please contact, training@ridgegear.com.

Inspection: Before each use, inspect all equipment for signs of wear and tear. Replace any damaged components immediately.

Teamwork: Effective communication and coordination among team members are essential for a successful rescue operation.
